Playstation was an interactive performance work created for Area 10, the artist run project space in the old Whitten’s Timber Yard in Peckham. It used colour found in the surrounding environment, painted onto found offcuts of wood remaining from the site’s time as a wood yard. The artist invited members of the public, individually or in groups, to create their own installation works from the elements of the piece, which was, in effect, a large-scale building block set made up of irregular shapes. The colour coding and range of sizes of pieces led to it being almost impossible to create other than a visually harmonious result. The installation sat next to the COLOUR work used as the bar during the show and small versions of the piece sat on surfaces of the bar for the amusement and engagement of those taking refreshment.
